In the framework of
forest and climate change TC and FC cooperation the program
(FORCLIME) implemented an improved institutional and regulatory
framework for sustainable forest management, nature conservation
and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation
and forest degradation (REDD). It supported relevant public
and private stakeholders on the regional, national and local
levels to implement related methods and services.
ECO implemented Component 3 of the TC programme (“Nature
conservation and sustainable development in Biodiverse Areas
in the Heart of Borneo – HoB Initiative”). The component
aimed to build effective schemes to improve the living conditions
of forest dependent communities while ensuring effective nature
conservation and natural resource management. It supported collaborative
management of national parks and their buffer zones and facilitated
negotiation of land use and development plans among major stakeholders
in selected HoB districts. Livelihood development measures,
including agreements on payments for environmental services,
empowered communities living within or adjacent to conservation
areas and decreased poverty and vulnerability to climate change
impacts. |
