The 40-page-brochure comes just right as an easily accessible introduction to the subject for the COP 15 at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

In it, GTZ's sector project International Forest Policy (IWP) and the SCBD describe how policies can be shaped to address climate change, biodiversity loss and poverty at a time. The brochure points at synergies and mutual enhancement of the objectives of international agreements such as the UNFCCC and the CBD and of decisions taken by the UN General Assembly following the recommendations of the UNFF.

Authors Dr. Stefanie von Scheliha, Björn Hecht and Tim Christophersen explain the basic concepts of, among others, ‘forest biodiversity’ and ‘ecosystem-based adaptation’ and explore linkages between ecosystem-based adaptation measures to climate change and mitigation measures.

Their proposed approaches include broad stakeholder participation and pro-poor-policies; improving the adaptation capacity of forests to climate change; maintaining species migration routes;
and avoiding self-enforcing negative impacts of climate change.
